GM MVHQ fam!  Today I will be discussing the NFT art project Bright Moments. I will be taking a look at their current roadmap and their most recent IRL event, Bright Moments Mexico City.  If you are not familiar with Bright Moments this article will give you an overview of the project as a whole, and why you should be paying attention to how they have changed the generative art landscape and why I am extremely excited about what they have in store for the future!

What is Bright Moments?

Bright Moments is an NFT art collective on a mission to create environments where art is co-created and co-consumed.  They are building a network of real-world, end-user crypto experiences, creating IRL minting experiences where artists and collectors come together and witness the birth of generative art.  Bright Moments primary NFT collection is titled Crypto Citizens and is powered by Art Blocks: 10,000 unique NFTs minted in increments of 1,000 in 10 different cities around the world. The mint is currently live and concludes around the end of 2023!  After attending Art Basel in Miami last weekend and participating in various IRL minting experiences I can safely say IRL minting is truly something special.  If you have not had the opportunity to participate yet, I would highly recommend it for the future.  Being physically present during the creation of generative art is truly something special.  Bright Moments has also paired with some of the biggest artists in the space including Tyler Hobbs, Snowfro, Emily Xie, Thomas Lin Pedersen, Matt DesLauriers, William Mapan and Jeff Davis to name a few!

Bright Moments History

Bright Moments was founded by Seth Goldstein in 2021 and plans to open a series of galleries in ten cities around the world, each with its own dedicated collection of 1,000 NFTs (CryptoCitizens). By the end of 2023, they plan on having a collection of 10,000 NFTs representing their global community.  Venice Beach was the first location for Bright Moments and opened its doors in May 2021.  The idea was to create a fun, social setting for people to learn about and collect NFTs. Since their opening, Bright Moments has been hosting in-person experiences for live NFT minting, drops, auctions, and curated art shows.  They are organized as an on-chain decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) with each CryptoCitizen having an equal governance right across the organization.

Governance

Each of the 10,000 Bright Moment CryptoCitizens have equal rights, with rights granting holders different utilities, including:

  • The ability to vote on DAO proposals related to our roadmap, golden token distributions, and treasury allocation

  • Equal access to future drops of NFTs, unique merchandise, and special experiences

  • Pro rata governance based on the number of CryptoCitizens one holds.

Bright Moments Cities & Artists

Since starting as a group of volunteers in 2021, Bright Moments has grown into an international organization spanning the globe.  By the end of 2023, Bright Moments plans on completing its city tour around the world, below is a list of the past and future cities:

  1. Galaxy - Galacticans were the first city of the CryptoCitizen collection and the only city minted in the Metaverse. Galacticans came into existence when the original founding DAO members voted to convert their ERC-20 token holdings into NFTs to expand membership of Bright Moments to all CryptoCitizens.

  2. Venice Beach - CryptoVenetians were a limited-release NFT pixel-art collection based on real people from Venice.  They were created to introduce people to crypto through a friendly onboarding process that combines a memorable IRL minting process with educational info regarding wallet software and best practices for security

  3. New York - CryptoNewYorkers were an IRL NFT project minted at the Bright Moments pop-up gallery in New York City from October, 2020 through December 31, 2020

  4. Berlin - CryptoBerliners were an IRL NFT project minted at the Bright Moments gallery in Berlin in April 2022

  5. London - CryptoLondoners were an IRL NFT project minted at the Bright Moments gallery in London in the summer of 2022

  6. Mexico City - Crypto Mexas was an IRL NFT project minted at the Bright Moments even in CDMX last month in November 2022

  7. Tokyo - Full details not revealed yet but looking like Bright Moments Tokyo will be taking place in late Q1 or early Q2

Bright Moments Mexico City (CDMX)

Bright Moments CDMX was a week-long event from November 14th to November 21st, celebrating contemporary Mexican NFT art and the Mexican culture as a whole.  Bright Moments held various daytime education panels and programs focused on onboarding local and emerging artists into the generative art space - the list of guest speakers for Mexico City included Daniel Calderon-Arenas, Snowfro, and Kevin Rose to name a few!  These panels and talks gave the community a chance to spend quality time with some of the biggest artists and collectors in the space.  It is rare for art enthusiasts to be able to connect with such accomplished artists in such an intimate setting.  Over the week in CDMX, there were approximately 3,000+ on-chain generative artworks minted, all celebrating death and the afterlife, memento mori.  Below is an overview of the IRL collections all attendees were able to enjoy throughout the week!

CryptoMexas

CryptoMexas are the 6th edition of Bright Moments ongoing generative pixel portrait collection, the CryptoCitizen collection is creating iconic experiences for all members spanning across 10 of the most prominent cities and cultures around the world.  CryptoCitizens when fully minted out, will be a 10,000 on-chain generative art collection with Crypto Mexas representing 10% of the final collection.

To mint a CryptoMexa, you must have held a Golden Token Mexico City, or receive an on-chain minting reservation via airdrop or community nomination, I will discuss this in more detail a little later.

The Mexico City Collection

The Mexico City collection includes 10 artists who released a series of 100 generative artworks that were minted on-site IRL at the event.  In addition, there is a special collection from local artist Juan Rodriguez Garcia, any mint pass holders were able to claim this mint for free!  Each artwork will be represented on-chain and included a unique and immersive experience for all minters, these IRL mint experiences were all different to ensure that all members attending would experience an unforgettable memory with their mint.  The artist list for CDMX includes: Anna Lucia, Daniel Calderon Arenas, Iskra Velitchkova, Marcelo Soria-Rodriguez, Monica Rizzoli, P1xelfool, Snowfro, Stefano Contiero, William Mapan, Zach Lieberman, Fahad Karim and Juan Rodriguez Garcia.  Below are some photos from the different IRL exhibits in Mexico City:

Why I’m Bullish

In the end, it is clear that Bright Moments has found a blueprint that is working.  They have been able to collaborate with some of the most well-known and respected artists in the space, provide top level educational and information sessions to their community members and best of all creating out of this world IRL minting experiences.  The longer I’m in web 3 the more excited I get for the future of generative art and whether you like it or not Bright Moments will be a household name in this space for years to come!
